I just had a new satellite internet service put in, since it’s all I can get. Although speedtest.net reveals that I have a download speed around 1900, general browsing is slow. I can downoad a file very quickly. But just regular surfing is actually slower than dialup. Any tips to speed things up?
Your problem is the 22,000 miles up and 22,000 miles download your request has to travel before it contacts a server. That is referred to as Lag time. n a DSL or cable connection lag times should be between 50ms and 250ms. On satellite it will range from 1100ms to 3500ms and that will depend on the load from other users.

1 Turn off the phishing filter in IE7 if that is the browser that you are using.
2. If you are using Vista, install a router between your modem and your computer.
3.Use FireFox as your browser.
4. Go to PCpitstop.com and run their full test. They are the best place to find tips on setting your computer to use satellite Internet.
5. Check your computer for spyware and adware, these things will slow your browsing speed.
6. Empty your browsers cache and reduce the size of the cache to 10MB or less.
