Can anyone explain to me why a Cingular aircard doesn’t have good connectivity when it is ran via cell towers

I live approx. 3 miles from the “edge”…to me, if cell phones work “everywhere” why can’t an aircard do the same? I cannot download music, watch videos, or even news clips because I am “on the edge”. This does not make sence to me. Basically, I pay 3 times, than most people, for a service that is no better than dialup. Please help me understand. OR better yet, tell me what I need to do to correct this. FYI, I have a brand new Toshiba laptop, with the Vista program.

  1. The farther you are from a Tower the slower your connection will be. Also EDGE is only 114K on average just about twice as fast as dial up so you will not gain a lot over dial up. Depending on the cost of phone service in your area if you have to have dial up you would be better to get another phone line and find an ISP who supports Multilink PPP that will let you dial up on two modems at once and double your bandwith.
