  1. No, you need to set up Internet Connection Sharing to allow both to connect at the same time on a dial up connection.

  2. I told … use network cable and network cards.(Both are mostlikely installed on your pc already) You cannot use dial up modems to connect the 2 PC’s.

  3. No. Only one modem can use the phone line at a time. You’d need to sign off PC #1 before you could sign on with PC #2.

  4. no you are not suppose to be able to. I have seen someone do it once before but they had foxfire and used a piggy back link to surf two seperate computers on the same dialup but once one computer disconnects and the other one is online it automatically dials up for connection. That must be checked on your internet option always look for connection. and the main computer need to be turned on in order to get online.

  5. No, you need a router for mulitple connections and then the router gets plugged into your phone line.

  6. The two ports on the modem card work differently. The “Line” port is to connect a phone line to the wall jack. The “phone” port is for you to connect a regular telephone. The reason behind this design was dated but eventually to provide you with the phone outlet for a phone after the computer occupied the phone jack on the wall. When the modem is idle you phone that connected to the “phone” port works as if the phone is connected directly to the wall jack. So you can call that a pass-through port. Remember for a dialup service with just one phone line service only one computer can get on the dialup at one time. You can connect the laptop modem to the “phone” port on the desktop modem but again only one computer does the dialup at one time. If for some reason you do want to have both computers on the Internet at the same time using just one phone service here is how you can do that. Install (if it is not already there) a network card on the desktop and network card on the laptop (if it is not alredy there). Connect both computers using the a cross over network cable. Then one of the computers dialup to Interent and set that computer to share Internet connection. Bear in mind that the Interenet access speed is about half for each computer. So a typical dialup connection at 48K baud will be share equally to two computers at 24K baud each, very slow by todays DSL or cable standard. Best thing to do is get high speed DSL or cable Internet service and you can share with many more computers and still have very good speed.
