I would like to use the bandwidth of my dialup as well as my ADSL connection simultaneousyl. Is there any way of tying together data streams from these two different services (and therefore to my two different IP addresses?). I would be happy if a load-sharing kind of arrangement is possible somehow

Any ideas how I can use Multilink PPP to tie together the two connections? If done at the OS level, the data streams should be transparent – or would a load-sharing setup be better? I just want to be able to use both bandwidths – I pay flat rate for both, but can presently use only one at any given time?
yeah, we do that in the office. Just put the splitter on so you separate the ADSL from the normal phone line, then stick the normal analogue modem on the phone line. No special arrangements required.

not sure about aol. but i did w at%t and if your bandwith is that slow or low you need to switch period, i did i think cablemodems faster then dsl

You can connect to both but I don’t believe there is any way to sync the streams with any over the counter hardware or software.

I think, though not positive, that you should be able to connect both at the same time. It’ll be tricky, but I believe the answer may lie in the “route” command which runs in a dos window.
How to do the load sharing is another issue. You’d probably be better off just with priority. For example, use the “route” command to set your ADSL route with METRIC 1, and then your dialup with METRIC 2. In that case, the ADSL will be first pick, but if it is maxed, presumably the connection will go over the dialup.
However, without a fixed IP that works on both networks this may get messy (not sure). If you start an Internet connection over the dialup, but it then tries to go over the other connection, it will look like its coming from a totally different system since you have a different IP address on your ADSL network versus your dialup connection. Web sessions will break, other connections may terminate, etc.
Now, I hope you weren’t also expecting a way to get your network to auto-dial the dialup connection whenever you need it…

Why on earth would you want to – even a low speed adsl connection at 512k per second would only be speeded up by another 4 or 5k per second
512 and 517k per second downloads will have negligible difference in download time
