Can’t stand the noise and sound of my modem dialing Pls Help!?

I just switched to AOL ISP and i have dialup (i will change to broadband soon) but can someone please if u can tell me how to mute my modem. I can’t stand the noise it makes when i click on connect. When i had Net Zero when i connected or set up i was able to mute my modem at the sign up screen now i don’t know with AOL cause i just turned over on Sat.9/23.

  1. remove the speaker in the modem. use a screwdriver to get it open. easy as pie.

  2. go to network connections, right click on your modem and go to properties, explore around, you should be able to disable it.

  3. Noisy modems. When the screech of your modem dialing late at night wakes the family, mute the sound. To do this, choose Start, Settings, Control Panel, Modems and select your modem from the list. Click on Properties and mute it there.

  5. I dont know but even tho you said you are switching soon I can’t believe people still use dial up. I would have no hair left on my head and my laptop would be in two pieces if not more. It sucks that it is so expensive tho. I have to pay like $45 for stupid RoadRunner. That is just a ridiculous rip off but the only alternative i really have is to go with DSL and for that I would have to have a basic land line which I dont have (I just use my cell) so the cost would even out as I would be paying for internet and a phone line. :(

  9. If you can find where your computer stores the modem’s init string, It should look something like this:

    AT&F1&B1&D2&H1&I0&K1&M4S7=60

Look in the string for the capital letter “M”. In the example above there is a number 4. If you find this, change the 4 or whatever number immediately follows the “M” to “0″ (zero).

If it does not have the “M” designator in it simply add “M0″ to the end of the string. This will turn the modem speaker off.

    Personal experience.
