   The trauma: *that* as I joined the internet via AOL for the first time ever. I soon learned that you could mute that annoying connection sound. I wonder if there are people out there who just listened to it every single time…ha ha

    Love the sound.. Hey, does anyone know WHY it made the sounds? Was it just a way for the makers of the modems to piss people off or was it so that you’d know in which fase it was in the connection order stuffs to make it easier for people to know where it went wrong?

    .. It was because it actually made a call. If you picked up your phone and called the number your modem dialed, you’d heard the static noise as well.

    im pretty sure the noises are connection sounds like to verify connection, then the static is i think like encoded 0′s and 1′s, only in audio form
