   You need to network the two computers together, and set up internet connection sharing on the one with the modem. It will become a DHCP server, and the other computer will be able to access the internet through it.

   Assuming the dial up one is running Microsoft Windows, you simply need to connect the two computers together and “share the internet connection” (You can do it with non-Windows also, but the terminology is different)

   There are a number of ways to connect the two computers together, depending on the computers, starting out with free and moving up to 20 or 50 dollars. So:

   If both computers have bluetooth, they can communicate with each other that way using the “Bluetooth Networking” icons in the Network Connections folder.

   If both computers have standard wireless WiFi 802.11 networking, they can communicate with each over an “ad hoc” network (instead of the normal infrastructure mode)

   If both computers have ethernet adapters, you can network them together that way. Computers built in the last few years simply need a standard ehternet cable to connect together. Older models will need a “crossover” cable which is cheap, but you’re unlikely to already have one and you’d have to find it. (or, you could use a “hub” or a “switch” to plug them both into.)

   If both computers have Firewire, they can connect together just by plugging together. Parallel ports can also be wired together, serial ports… it’s getting a little esoteric here.

   In all of the above cases, You need to establish a network between the two computers, and configure it in the Network Connections folder (tell both the computers to get IP address automatically). Then (for Windows XP) you find the dialup icon in that same folder and you right click, select “Properties” and then choose the “Advanced” tab, and click “share this internet connection” and choose the appropriate connection based on whichever one you picked from the above. Doing this will cause the primary dial up computers network connect to change from being “obtain IP address automatically” to being 192.168.0.1 and also a DHCP server, which is where the other will automatically get its address from….

   believe it or not, it’s all very simple you and you have it going in 5 minutes… but there are a number of steps and it’s easy to get confuse and screw it up if you don’t really know what you are doing… good luck. I think I’ve given you enough that you could search the internet for the info you need.

   there are two solutions,
   1. get a twisted cable to connect both of them, then share the internet connection with the local area network (LAN)

   2. get two straight cables and a HUB..

   that would share the connection, and unless you have extremely high end computers, a dial up modem just wouldnt work

    Hi,
    First one of the computers must have modem and ethernet card and let us called this computer A, and the other computer needs only ethernet card and let us called it computer B.
    the method is:
    the computer B connects to A through LAN, CROSS CABLE between them (you need to assign IP for each computer, I recomment computer A 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and gateway 192.168.0.2).
    computer B (192.168.0.3, subnet 255.255.255.0, and getway 192.168.0.2).
    there’s some settings you must do it for computer A, that is right click on MYNETWORK PLACES, then PROPERTIES and then righclick on your ethernet card name, and PROPERTIES, go to the ADVANCED tab above and check the “ALLOW OTHER NETWORK USERS TO CONNECT THROUGH THIS COMPUTER” check it and then apply and o.k.
    connect A to the internet through the modem, and when you’re connected, computer B will use the internet as well.

    Best person to answer your question is Internet cafe. They have multiple computers installed on a single dial up connection. Still for your instant info: I think you need an external dial-up modem, thru which you can connect 2 computers & use both of them simueltaneously. Further if you want to increase the browsing speed you need install a router. (but for 2 computer I dont think internet speed would be affected)
