Loading ...How can I get my granny to understand how to use the net or a mouse for that matter?
My mom, husband, and myself have tried for years to help my grandma learn how to use the net. She is 85 and insists on having a computer and the internet. She refuses to get DSL and uses dialup. She cannot use a mouse, and changes back and from from isp’s (aol, netscape, people pc, etc) every few months. She fusses about one and says its too hard to work then when she changes to another she says the past one that was so bad is the best now. She recently got ripped off for a crappy computer after we told her exactly what to buy she went and bought what we told her to STEER CLEAR of. Ugh, what can we do?

Walk away as fast as you can. If she won’t listen to you, you have to let her make her own mistakes. Walk away from the Granny!

She’s 85, she’s perfectly able to make her own decisions.
Why not butt out and let her do her own thing?

i hav the same problem. sell the one she got ripped off on for w/e u can get.
get a decent computer with internet (any kind) and then introduce her to http://www.freeslots.com.
she will forget about everything else.

Enroll her in a class…maybe a group environment will help. Also, get her a tablet, its very easy, point the pen to click (no more mucking with mice). Maybe just let her be besides that!

Heh. Sounds like my grandma… She paid like 400$+ on parts for a old computer which didn’t help it at all.. They sold her sound cards and old boards and everything that she didn’t need.
She also has trouble working with the mouse & keyboard. Those CD’s for training does them no good when they don’t understand how they run. If your grandma is persist like mine is, and fails to learn… I just forgot about it… Stopped trying to help her, and let her do whatever she wants. She now doesn’t touch it and just complains. But atleast she stopped wasting money on things she didn’t need.

Same thing with my grandparents. When you know what to do with the crappy computer tell me. Just sign her up for DSL and show her why its better. No technical terms.

Write a column and put it in the funnies? Sounds like you have a stubborn granny on your hands that likes to make matters worse for herself and then whine about it (some people don’t grow out of that phase now do they?).
So what do you do? Nothing. Just sit-back and watch in amusement because your granny has to learn somehow and obviously she’s doing it the hardway.

hmmm. ur first mistake was telling her about other internet providers. make her stick to one and learn from that one.
o_o she cant use a mouse??? have her use the little soft stubby thingy on old laptops then
