connection speed is as good as your isp would provide you. dial up has very limited speed depending where you are from 56 to 64k. changing modems still won't cut it better you switch to dsl with higher bandwidth once you do you'll definitely see a big difference. dial up might be cheaper compared to dsl but i'd definitely recommend it coz it's well worth it

It seems you have many questions regading modems. first of all, you need to know the connection providers' bandwidth or in simple term speed. Accordingly you can select the modem which would suit you for accessing internet i.e. if your internet provider offers you the speed of 32Kbs then 56Kbs modem of different kind would do. Basically the speed and the connectivity are determined by the Internet system providers (ISP). If you have speed and connectivity problem I personally recommand you to talk to your ISP instead wasting money buying a new one. Often it's convenient to go for External modem yet it's costly.

The only way to get a better speed on dialup is to hope and pray it gets a clean connection. Your modem is already set to connect at the hightest amount of bandwidth the modem can handle (usually 56k, maybe a little more). If it makes a bad connection, it will connect at a slower speed. It also depends on the connection speed of the modem you are connecting to.
Personally, I'd recommend upgrading to DSL or Cable modem since they are going to be many times faster than any dial up modem.

There is a thing that my ISP has. it suppressed the high quality of jpg and gif images so those files are smaller. most of the time you don't want to see those advertising banners anyway.

Visit my ISP: www.qis.net they talk about the program they use.

Get rid of it and get a broadband connection. It's not that much more expensive anymore and you can usually get cable or DSL anywhere.

Dial-up is slow. That's just how it is.

Ha. "Speed" and "dial-up" should never be used in a sentence together unless that sentence is, "I am so ticked that my dial-up connection has no speed."

My advice, go get cable. Or DSL even.

Some ISPs (like AT&T) let you download a software accellerator program which can speed the modem up quite a bit.
