I have yahoo messenger 6.0, and I can’t download the new version does anyone know why?

I am running windows 98, and using dialup service.
I have pleanty of room on my harddisk.
I was trying to download messenger 8.0

    You need windows 2000 or xp to run the new version of Y! IM

    head over to http://www.freecreed.com and click on older yahoo messenger … almost ever version yahoo messenger is there with a direct download link …. not yahoo’s flash installer which is what causes most people issues … grab the 8.1.0.402 if you want the latest one
