I use winxp, using dialup is ok, but try to use Lan setting within local group i cannot go up to the internet?

Before i use dialup to access the internet then i try to add static ip address within my local network to go up to the internet but i could not. I tried to delete dialup connect and use automatically dectect settings of Lacal Area Network(Lan) setting but i still have no response to connect to the internet. m double check the firewall setting, but sure, it’s not enable. Any could help plz, Thks
More info: Regard to Network card, I’d to say m sure it’s working properly cuz I got reply from ping to my local network, my router gateway, and DNS provideD by ISP.

  1. This is somewhat strange because if you can ping the dns server and get a reply then you are connected to the internet. what i would do is 1) try pinging http://www.yahoo.com and make sure you really are getting through to the dns.

if you are, then it’s got to be a setting in your internet browser that is screwing you up

if you arnt getting a response then 2x check your router, usually you can get on them using your internet browser and use an on-router ping to see if you can get out. next, try looking at ‘route print’ in the xp command line, maybe you arnt getting the default gateway setup…gl, theres a lot of room for confusion in this one
