Is it possible to change out a dialup modem on a laptop?

the phone jack on my laptops modem is looking pretty loose. i would like to know if this is something I can change myself. I do my own work on my desktop, but have never attempted anything on my laptop, other than memory. Any suggestions or sites where I can actually buy parts for a laptop.

  1. Probably not, as in most laptops the modem (and most other components) are built right into the system board. You would have to replace the whole board. But without opening the case (or checking the web site for make/model) I can not say for sure.

If you really need a modem, it would probably be cheaper – even if the internal modem to changable – to just buy either a USB modem or one designed to plug into the laptop's PC card slot. As they are "generic" parts, they would probably be half the price of an internal modem specific to your laptop. (And good luck find internal parts for a laptop.)

just add a few drops of super glue around the jack, avoid spilling on the connectors inside, very bad.
