    It is illegal to download songs (from anywhere) without the permission of the copyright holder.

    Most songs on limewire are there without such permission so downloading them is illegal.

    A (very) small proportion are there with the permission of the copyright holder, or the copyright on them has expired.

  2. Yes. Piracy is a crime. You are basically taking money out of the pocket of the artist who created the song, do to not buying the album in stores. If such programs like Limewire made everything 100% legal to download everything, what would be the point of selling?

  3. I believe Limewire is the only one left (yet) that hasn’t been either shut down by the Music Industry or forced to “go legit” (pay royalties and thus make you pay for your downloads). I’d steer clear of Limewire if I were you. I’ve also read that you may get a lot of nasty surprises (viruses, spyware, etc.) using Limewire.
