    Dude, get with the times…Broadband access is what you want…Verizon DSL is only like 5 bucks more than dialup and a lot faster.

    The phone company may also be degrading your connection. Since they are all pushing their DSL programs. They really do not have a big motive to keep the regular phone lines clean enough to get a good connection. As any interference on the phone line will degrade a phone modem’s connection and slow down the transfer rate.

    Also the farther you are from a node the slower your dialup will be. Most folks only get 48k at best with a good connection.

    If cost is your problem. Your best bet would be to get a low transfer rate Cable or DSL connection. Both have multiple transfer rates usually starting around $20 a month.

    If you are too far out to have access to either of these. Then that may be your problem. You are too far from the main lines to get a good connection.
