I am unable to get DSL or cable or broadband other than satellite the ONLY service available to me is dialup, that is why I am researching the difference.

I have Starband satellite. It costs $49.99 a month. It is better than dial-up but still not as good as cable. We have a few breaks in service when the weather is bad.
The startup costs are the worst part – for new equipment they want around $600. But I found a dealer on ebay and got used equipment for $250. He was really good and answered all my questions and helped us get it all set up.
