I hear the server trying to connect, but it never goes thru, this is my home line, I use AOL at my job and connect with dialup, but it goes thru, with a fast connection.
When I try to dial up with a modem, it won’t connect, all I get are some high pitched sounds, but no connect

sounds like a wire or connection problem, make sure the phone line is getting a good connection in the modem and at the wall.
try a different phone cord.
try a different phone jack.
