  1. You should un-install Messenger and do a clean re-install. Click the “Start” button, click “Control Panel”, and open “Add/Remove Programs”. Scroll down to “Yahoo! Messenger” and remove it. (If you can find it, look for “SBC Yahoo!” or any item in the list with the word “Yahoo!” in it.) Then install a fresh copy of the most recent version from http://messenger.yahoo.com

To test your sound setup, click “Call Setup Assistant” in the Actions menu and run through it.

To use Audible and IMVs you also need the latest version of Flash:

Yahoo! Messenger uses IE to show pictures. You may have turned off pictures in IE, which also turns them off in Yahoo! Messenger. To fix this:

    1. Open Internet Explorer
    2. Click “Internet Options” in the Tools menu
    3. Click the “Advanced” tab
    4. Scroll down about halfway to the Multimedia section
    5. Find the checkbox called “Show picture”
    6. Make sure the checkbox is checked
    7. Click OK

You should also check your Internet Explorer settings, since Messenger uses IE to display the conversation. Open Internet Options in the Tools menu and check your font settings, and also try setting your Privacy and Security sliders to medium.
