I am a newcomer to cable, high speed internet, and hd tv. What services would you recommend?

I currently use dial up which is a free service provided by my school which I would like to upgrade b/c of the slow downloads. I also currently do NOT have any cable service provider, I watch the basic channels via a digital converter box on my old 19 inch tv.
I am currently in the market to upgrade my tv to a flat screen LCD 1080p, 120-240hz, I also am in the market for a bundling cable or satellite, high speed internet service. Problem is I know absolutely nothing about them, I currently live in the Chicago area and have At&t for home phone service, which I hardly ever use btw and would consider getting rid of. I have contacted RCN, WOW, and At&t (originally for the uverse but it is not available in my area so I was offerred the Direct Tv service)

Any suggestions? No rush either. I want to be able to work faster on the computer, (I’m not a big gamer but I would like to be able to watch You tube, I download music from itunes and videos) I would like to be able to surf the net faster, I would also like to be able to watch tv without losing signals which happens a lot with the converter box. I am okay with basic channels, however have a few I would like such as tbs, oxygen, lifetime, etc. I don’t watch a lot of tv, the 2,5,7,9,11,26, 32, and 50 usually suit me okay.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

How do I put wireless internet on my desktop computer?

I live in a rural area and cannot get DSL or cable internet. My modem has gone out on my computer and I want to go ahead and add something faster than dial up. I have AT&T cell phone service so I am thinking about going with them…..

I have dial-up, but want wireless?

Hi. I have dial-up service, because companies are too cheap to allow a cable to run down my road. A Verzion worker recently told my father that we could get a wireless card for the internet. Is that true?? We have a desktop and a couple laptops and desperately want a faster internet speed other than slow 31.2 kbps. So my question…can we get a wireless card to get wireless service??
