Except in the case of a dialup? I’m looking for the comparision on cost of ownership, effectiveness of REAL firewalls like routers vs. dysfunctional software firewalls. With all these products dominating the market it is an uneasy task to explain such things to non-technical people.

Am looking for cable or wireless, since I more than likely won’t have a landline telephone, and hate dialup in any case … have googled around for providers, but can’t make head or tail of what they’re offering, am afraid I’m not very clever about these things … does anyone have any recommendations?
