I live in a rural area and cannot get DSL or cable internet. My modem has gone out on my computer and I want to go ahead and add something faster than dial up. I have AT&T cell phone service so I am thinking about going with them…..

Hi. I have dial-up service, because companies are too cheap to allow a cable to run down my road. A Verzion worker recently told my father that we could get a wireless card for the internet. Is that true?? We have a desktop and a couple laptops and desperately want a faster internet speed other than slow 31.2 kbps. So my question…can we get a wireless card to get wireless service??

I just bought a new laptop and had to get a router of course, but my problem is that my desktop was working fine with by dsl/cable setup, but it seems that when I got the laptop and bought the router and had it configured for my desktop and laptop, now sometimes I cannot get an internet connection. I try to troubleshoot by making sure my connections are on, and I get a message on my laptop stating a local connection is unplugged. I don’t get that, I don’t see anything unplugged where my router is and my desktop. I even disconnected my router and plugged it up again. Could it be that my downstairs landlords who do not have cable or dsl, but an ancient dial-up computer, and the wife has a laptop, with a router I am assuming, could be interfering with my wireless connection??? I am so frustrated because I love my new laptop and this is getting ridiculous!!

My desktop is having an internet connection problem. I have dial up and i’m trying to sign on to the internet through netscape. When i try to sign on it says that it is connected, but nothing else happens. the toolbar doesn’t show up and it won’t allow me to get online. I noticed that there was an x in the corner of my computer saying that the local area connection was not connected, something about the network cable being unplugged. the thing is that i tried using the same internet service provider and cable for my laptop and it works perfectly. so i think it has something to do with my the hardware on my computer not being able to connect…I need help…someone please enlighten me!!!!!!!!!!1

I’m running Windows XP with a Linksys Wireless G Router. I noticed the “Wireless-G” activity light blinks intermittenly even when my laptop is powered off. The router is also hooked up to my desktop. I want to see if there’s a way to find out if my internet connection (and my shared folders) have been accessed in any way. I do have WAP encryption enabled on my router, but I have a feeling that isn’t helping much. Any info would help. Thank you!
