ok here is my problem I had a dell desktop with dialup. It was old and very basic. I was okay with the speed, i use it for internet music and photos. I recently bought a gateway laptop and I am using same dialup connection and it trememdously slow. I heard from everyone that it was going to be much faster. I don’t really need super speed but I can hardly even do anything on it. It is so slow? I am getting roadrunner soon, but why is this new one with super specs worse than old one with bad specs?

I have a desktop running Windows XP Home, a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium, and an ethernet cross over cable. How do I set up the computers so I can share files between them? Neither are on any type of network (The only internet I have is dialup). Both have a base 10/100 network card.

I have road runner, cable internet. I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer and a wireless router. For some reason, the other day, the Internet speed on the desktop dramatically decreased! I tried to download a 10MB test file and I was only getting about 6Kbps, while on the laptop I am getting 500Kbps on the same file, if not more. Both computers are connected to the wireless router, however the desktop is a wired connection. Everything has worked fine in the past, and this happened just at once. Any ideas?! I’ve ran spyware doctor and tcp optimizer with no results.

I’ve got dialup , i’m surfing the web,my desktop says i’m not connected to any network, how is that possible?

I cleaned off my old Dell desktop that has a dialup modem. Loaded Windows XP Pro – dialup connection dropped to 26.8. Had the geeks come out to assess and was told that my 486 processor was unable to keep up with the OS.

I purchased a new Dell laptop in January thinking that everything would be configured correctly and my dialup would increase a bit.

NOT!!! What is causing this issue?

Also, I heard that Vista will not work with dial up. Is this accurate? I have the upgrade but have not installed it.
