What is this Internet service?????

I recently bought a IBM laptop from eBay and it comes with a 802.11g Wireless LAN PC card. When I switch the laptop on, it suddenly connect me to the internet and I was browsing. BUT….I am not a subscriber of any internet service DSL or dial-up….AND I was not around or close to any internet wireless router when I use the laptop…I was in the middle of a parking lot. How was I able to access the net? It happened everytime I switch on the laptop even when I am in my office where there is no wireless service. Can someone enlighten me on this???
By the way, I am in Dover, NH.

Does Ebay have some killer computers or what?

How can you have a 20 cent listing day and on the same day schedule maintenance? What like 2 million items are trying to get listed and somebody is over there going “No that plug, pull that one. bee………………………………….p. Im not knocking Ebay, just seems strange. I did notice the connection is really slow, like dialup slow. like 14.4 slow. like a turtle on valium slow. I gave up and wandered over here.
as far as sells and trust on ebay. i sell a lot. not because its junk. for profit. i couldnt sell a lot of stuff locally for near the profit i get out if using ebay.

computor problem?

I fire up the old computor kick in the dialup get to my yahoo home page looking thru emails,ebay,and such then it happens dang popup no matter how I go about it when I click the X to close the popup it closes my yahoo home page and I have to start over everytime.I have the popup blocker set at full but some of them still get on and down we go.Anyone out there got ideas of how to fix this headache.

Upgraded from dialup to DSL…pics are coming up as a red X?

I recently upgraded from dialup AOL to DSL. Now most of my pictures from myspace to ebay are coming up as a red X. What is wrong with my computer?

I have wildblue wireless internet. I had dialup at 24 kb. I thought I was going to get some speed.?

When I start downloading a movie or anything for that matter it will start out from about 50-70 kpbs but within seconds it drops to about low 30′s. What is the problem? I go to open Ebay which should open in about 18 sec. it takes over 60 sec. What is the problem? I called tech support ran 3 different speed test and they are all over the scale. Tech support told me to disable my firewall and leave it off. This did not speed up anything. Should I leave my firewall disabled or am I asking for problems doing this? Am I the only one having this problem with wildblue?
