Is there such a thing as as-needed DSL?

My sister visits my parents every couple months and wants Internet access at the house, but it has to be high-speed (at least basic DSL). Is there a really cheap decent quality DSL ISP, or an as-needed DSL-type account? (sort of like dial-up, so you get say twenty hours of DSL for ten bucks a month?) I thought NetZero had the answer with their 12.95/month 768k/DSL, but the price goes up to 22.95 after three months. Thanks

Internet service options for outlying area?

I work for a NPO, the internet access at our youth camp in Palestine, Texas is via satellite and painfully slow on its best days. Its better than dial up I guess but not by a whole lot. None of the local service providers extend out that far. Internet access from any of the mobile companies like Verizon or Clear won’t work either, we tried it and it didn’t get any signal at all. Does anybody out there have any ideas how we could get better and more reliable internet access in a area like this?
Let me reiterate, we cannot get reception from Verizon or Clear devices connected to any of the computers, cell phone signals have the same problem out there, either no bars or really low and unreliable signal.

Windows XP Internet help?

Hey, I am running Windows XP Professional on boot camp on my 2010 Macbook. I am having trouble with the internet thou. I have the latest service pack (3). No wifi icon shows up when I look for it and I have searched for it for a long time. When I look in my network places only dial-up and private-virtual web show up. I tried to plug in an ethernet cord but nothing shows up when I plug it in and I still do not have internet access. It isn’t the ethernet cord because i have tested it on another computer.

Any help? Im thinking of bringing it in to Best Buy/Fry’s but don’t want to drop the cash if I don’t need too.
I don’t know how to install or add more things because I can not connect to the internet.
