Im looking for a modem that i can use for linux and windows. Something easy to use so my mom can use it without me helping her.
Im on dialup and i cant get anything else, does anyone know a good dialup modem?
My laptop modem crashed… is there a hardware modem i can use with out using my modem on my computer?
Bought my niece a laptop(used). Came with a wificard. Please list step by step how to make this thing work. Do I need to enter info like you do for a dialup internet connection or something? Her mom cannot afford high speed, and right now they don’t even have a phone (got turned off – parents getting divorced, yada, yada) so I can’t get her dialup even. What exactly do I have to do? It said something about Odyssey. There’s no instructions really even on the cd. She can’t wait to use her computer.
It’s a Compaq Armada M700 PIII. I had 325 or 350 memory(ram?) installed because it only had 128 in it originally. Nero? dvd-cdrw.

I want my mom to switch to Roadrunner, and she called our phone company and was given a quote that can get a better offer on phone and long distance, as well as get Earthlink “High speed Internet.”
I was just wondering if it was that much faster????
What I want to know is, why do they advertise it as quote “high speed,” end quote, when it really that much better?
What makes it better than dialup?
Yes, both my computer have a modem. There is a couple different ones in my area. I wouldn’t be gettingit, my mom and dad would. I would never ever get SBC, because they suck just like AOL does

My mom, husband, and myself have tried for years to help my grandma learn how to use the net. She is 85 and insists on having a computer and the internet. She refuses to get DSL and uses dialup. She cannot use a mouse, and changes back and from from isp’s (aol, netscape, people pc, etc) every few months. She fusses about one and says its too hard to work then when she changes to another she says the past one that was so bad is the best now. She recently got ripped off for a crappy computer after we told her exactly what to buy she went and bought what we told her to STEER CLEAR of. Ugh, what can we do?
