I have a DSL internet service at home and I need to network our 2 other computers from different rooms which is 10 meters away. I dont have a LAN card either so can I use an 8 port ethernet SWITCH instead of a ROUTER since it’s more cheaper? Also what would be the difference in their performance if theres any? In addition, what would be the recommended wire placement, the crossover or the standard type?

i believe my computers were and still mayb controlled by someone: boyfriend/friends stranger gov? had dialup found network connections file sharing, search began these factors occurred repeatedly..callwave,netscape,os files,hosting, y messenger, nview,nividia,people pc.earthlink,realplayer,Aol common, winamp files,AolCall Alert. strange characters in text, no audio on with most programs, hidden commun in frames,html formats file types unknown to me,xml,xls.ink.cvs,odd rss feeds,javaformats,home phone system haywire /strange telephone num./phone messages to home heard over others comp cellphones/sim cards ,text messaging ,faxing xm radio bands annt. boosters infared car stereos home dvd system music w/ hidden messages came into play. kind of sounds like a list of today’s technologhy huh?, taught 4 15 yrs.thought i was fairly comp literate no way! someone used these things to nearly destroy my world
sanity ? 2yr old daughter in middle,now hv broken home still

I opened network connections but i only have a 1394 connection. I have tried to make a new connection but it says it is already hooked up. but no icon… i do have activity on my cable modem. It does connect on my laptop.
Do i need the LAN icon in the network b4 I try to start the modem config? If so how do i make that setting. I only see how to make dialup and crap connections, nothing on cable broadband connections

i got 2 network connections. one is dialup and other is wireless
is there any way i can configure that some programs use one connection and others different one..
lets say i want limewire to use my wireless and programs like yahoo mess and internet explorer to use dialup.
or maybe someway that programs use both connections..?
I used to use a modem to connect to the internet, and then I switched to wireless, so I’m connected all the time. However, I still get this annoying “Network Connections” dialog that asks me to pick a dialup connection. How do I disable this? I have winxp. The dialog says “Choose a network connection:” and then a combo box of dialup options, then buttons for connect/cancel/new/properties… I always pick cancel. Properties doesn’t seem to help.
