Basically, its a cheap card being put in a slot where an unused 56k dialup modem has been sitting. The pc freezes at the “compaq” screen, the very first screen at boot. i’ve tried different slots, and i even tried installing the driver from the CD first. whats the issue? ask me a question and i’ll respond ASAP if you need more specifics, thank you

My pal has a PC which uses dial-up to connect to the net.It was working fine until a few weeks ago.Now the modem(PCI) can be heard dialing out but it never connects.I tried connecting my laptop to his phone line using his Internet settings and I instantly got connected.
Then we tried connecting his PC to the net using a CDMA cellphone via the PC’s USB port. This way also the PC could connect to the net.
I reinstalled the modem but it still doesn’t connect.I have also tried Netsock fixes for XP(he uses WINXP).
Any suggestions???
