IN XP I have dialup connection and I get good data transfar rate but I can not brows any website like yahoo mail or hotmail mail.My internet explorar’s version is 6.My PC has Norton anty virus gurd.I am confirm that my PC have no virus or spyware or adware or somthing like that.
hi..i’m using a dialup modem 56k..lately, my connection drops half the speed as it used to..is it because of my internet provider or..is it possible that my modem is faulty? i’m positive that i don’t have spyware or any kind..tnx!

What are the security risks when using a computer at a public library to make financial transactions? What about a home computer with dialup – how can you be sure that your spyware, antivirus and firewall softwares are safe enough to use to make financial transactions?

My son wants me to upgrade to high-speed internet so he can download music faster to his ipod. I am concerned about what I need in terms of firewalls and spyware blockers and anti-virus and computer hackers. I am running Webroot’s Spysweeper with anti-virus and SystemSuite’s Netdefense firewall on my dialup connection right now. Should I consider better programs than these?
He also wants to have a wireless LAN in the house. How do I prevent someone from tapping in to that?
We are considering BellSouth’s DSL because I can combine my cell, home phone and dialup accounts for about the same money and still get this high-speed connection. I just need to purchase the necessary hardware and software protection. By the way, BellSouth offers a firewall at $10/month. Would that be better advised than buying some third-party firewall such as Norton?
Why is all this stuff so complicated?

I have a brand new computer, so its not the computer. I had problems with IM earlier this week and removed it from my computer and then reloaded it. I am currently using version 7.0 with Voice. I do not have sound, AT ALL. No IM warning, just the orange box at the bottom of the screen…NOTHING. My emoticons do not work and yes, the box is clicked. I have searched through HELP, with no help. I hate not having any sound. My husband is in Iraq and we use this as a means of communications, and I depend upon the IM Notification to let me know if he is on if I am not in the room. I don’t even get a notice when someone signs on or off. My Connection Pref’s also get messed up. Stating that I have DialUp and that I live in Canada. I have DSL and live in the USA! And sometimes, I cannot change it because the option isnt there. Virus scans have been done and the system is clean, no spyware either. I need help. Please?
