Need some help networking a Win98 pc and a WinXP pc?

my current home network is as follows:
cable modem
^wireless router
^hardline to desktop with xp & wireless to laptop with xp

i have another desktop that has 98 (first edition) and it only has a dialup modem.
Is there a way i can network my desktop with my laptop through their dialup modems in order to share the laptop’s wireless connection and access the internet?
i think that is as clear as i can explain my question…

How do I get rid of the “Network Connections” dialog?

I used to use a modem to connect to the internet, and then I switched to wireless, so I’m connected all the time. However, I still get this annoying “Network Connections” dialog that asks me to pick a dialup connection. How do I disable this? I have winxp. The dialog says “Choose a network connection:” and then a combo box of dialup options, then buttons for connect/cancel/new/properties… I always pick cancel. Properties doesn’t seem to help.

system requirements for yahoo messenger?

We are trying to make messenger8 work with winXP/broadband at one end and a win98 pentiumP2/Dialup 56kmodem at the other.we are running internet explorer 6. All seems to be installed but messages are not recieved at the low tech end – I can see that a message is being typed to me but I never get it.
Anyone else out there got a similar lowtech system working with messenger or are we just trying to do too much with old systems.
Any suggestions for tweaks? – thanks

slow internet speed on XP?

i’m using using dialup connection and it works fine on win98 but the speed becomes extremely slow when i switch to winXP. is there any way to increase internet speed on XP ??? i’ve used TCP/IP optimizer but it doesn’t work at all.
